| THE COURSE |
|
| A 1-day, multi-agency, awareness course which builds on domestic abuse basic awareness. The course will focus on theoretical models for assessing risk and managing safety, and look at a range of interventions and relevant referral routes. |
|
| AIM |
|
| To enable practitioners to develop increased awareness and improved knowledge of the needs of children, young people and/or adults who are parents/carers, where domestic abuse is a feature, in order to safeguard and promote the welfare of children in accordance with legislation and national and local procedures and guidelines. |
|
| LEARNING OUTCOMES |
|
| · To recognise the impact of domestic abuse on children and young people, victims and on parenting |
|
| · To demonstrate a good knowledge of known risk factors in connection with children and domestic abuse, and to develop and apply tools to identify and analyse risk. |
|
| · To explore a range of referral and intervention routes, demonstrating an ability to select appropriate interventions and referral routes, within a multi-agency context, and placing the child(ren) at the centre. |
|
| · To develop and apply good practice in safety planning for non-abusing carers and children. |
|
| · To determine the needs of children and their carers in relation to experiencing domestic abuse, and to demonstrate an ability to promote good multi-agency working to meet those needs. |

| TARGET AUDIENCE |
|
| Targeted training for practitioners and volunteers in key services working directly with children, young people and adults who may be parents/carers, and who have been affected by domestic abuse. |
|
| PRE-REQUISITES |
|
| All applicants to this course will need to show that they have completed the CYSCB web-based Child Protection Basic Awareness course (or equivalent). |
|
| All applicants to this course will need to show that they have completed a domestic abuse basic awareness course, either multi-agency or single agency. Participants will be delivering services to this client group. |
