COURSE AIMS
To provide practitioners with the knowledge and skills to contribute effectively in multi-agency process to safeguarding children, with particular reference to case conferences (including reports), developing and implementing child protection plans, core groups and reviews, in order to enhance outcomes for children and in accordance with Working Together 2008 and other guidance.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
· Demonstrate the ability to work with other practitioners, children and families on complex tasks that have specific knowledge or skill requirements. For example, joint enquiries under section 47 of the Children Act 1989, contribution to core assessments, participation in strategy meetings for conference and review, and ensuring that children's issues are heard and their views sought.
· Be able to write clear evidence based and outcome focused reports as appropriate, assess the relevance and status of information and know when it is appropriate to pass it on or share it
· Demonstrate an understanding of the role of assessment, analysis, planning and review in contributing to the change process
· Identify and analyse the risks, strengths and needs of individuals and families at an inter-personal, intra-personal and systemic level which influence the capacity and motivation of individuals to make and maintain changes
· Identify a range of barriers to effective practice in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, and develop strategies to minimise their impact (e.g. managing conflict between agencies, or with carers, dealing with aggression and non-compliance and effective communication with children, young people and their families).
· Be aware of the effect of one's own values and beliefs on practice and show a commitment to valuing diversity and promoting equality
· Develop the confidence to contribute in line with one's own role, responsibilities and accountabilities whilst able to challenge and question decisions in complex situations by looking beyond own immediate role
